A guide to help you determine the light output with the new Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs in comparison to incandescent bulbs

A guide to help you determine the light output with the new Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs in comparison to incandescent bulbs.

CFL Bulb Disposal
Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) contain small amounts of mercury, and it is important that they are handled in the proper manner. In the event of a CFL bulb breakage, the Environmental Protection Agency has advised the following:
  • Ventilate and leave the room for 15 minutes
  • Carefully scoop up the fragments and powder with stiff paper or cardboard
  • Use disposable gloves when cleaning the area
  • Place all items used in a double-sealed plastic bag.
  • If wet wiping is required, use a soapy solution using dandruff shampoo. Dandruff shampoo contain zinc and sulfur which mercury bonds to.

Check with your local municipality for CFL bulb recycling options.
